Back pain warning

ONE in six construction workers suffers permanent back pain.

The shocking figure is contained in a report this week from the Health and Safety Executive and the Better Backs Campaign, which blames construction workers for ignoring their advice on safe lifting techniques.

A survey showed that 59 per cent of construction workers admitted their back problems were down to ignoring the risks at work.

HSE spokeswoman Elizabeth Gyngell said: 'It is worrying that such a high percentage of workers are ignoring the risks.'
