Baghdad plans $50bn airport development

Iraq says it has begun planning $50bn worth of development in the area surrounding Baghdad International airport.

The Transport Ministry says the preliminary plan will involve 16 separate developments on the land surrounding the airport. They will include industrial and commercial sites, along with a freezone and hotels.

Baghdad’s airport has undergone a $100m refit over the last year, alongside work on other major airports around the country.

Mosul International airport recently reestablished an air link with the UAE after it reopened in December last year (MEED 24:2:09).
