Sir, Of all the hare-brained ideas I have ever heard of after spending 60 years in the construction industry, bales of straw for house building must be one of the biggest mistakes of all time (News, June 30).
The person who suggested this must have been looking at houses somewhere abroad where there is no frost. The inclement weather we have in the UK would penetrate straw like a sponge and the damp created would be disastrous. Vermin could also live in the straw.
Who would move into a straw dwelling that is built to a specification that can only spell disaster?
