Balfour and Morgan Est in £3bn award

BALFOUR Beatty and Morgan Est have tapped into over £3 billion of water work in north-west England.

The pair have been selected by United Utilities to upgrade and maintain the area's water mains, sewers and electricity network.

They will work on the design, construction and commissioning of work. Balfour Beatty will cover work in the north of the region while Morgan will operate in the south.

These contracts are part of United Utilities'AMP4 investment programme, which runs until 2010.

In total, £2.9 billion will be invested on improving the environment and water quality and a further £640 million to improve electricity supplies.

There is the option that both contracts will be extended until 2015.
