Balfour Beatty claims £160m transport double

Balfour Beatty has scooped £160 million in transport contracts in the US and China.

The company's US civil engineering subsidiary has been awarded a $193 million contract by the California Department of Transportation to upgrade Interstate Highway I-5 in the state's Orange County region.

The project involves the improvement of two miles of highway and six bridges in the Buena Park area.

In China, the group's electrification and power supply business has won a Eu78 million project to electrify 619 kilometres of double track railway between Tianjin and Shenyang in Liaoning Province.

Work on both projects starts immediately.
