Balfour Beatty has been named as selected bidder for the Southwark Schools for the Future programme.

The £200 million project will be carried out in three phases and cover 13 school projects in the London borough of Southwark.

All construction work on the project will be performed by Balfour Beatty subsidiaries Beatty Construction and Balfour Kilpatrick, while another subsidiary, Transform Schools, will be the leading supplier of information and communication technology solutions in conjunction with educational IT specialist RM Group.

Financial close is scheduled for the second quarter of 2009 with the first new schools opening in September 2010 and 2011.

Balfour Beatty will invest £6 million of equity in the programme.
