Balfour fined

Balfour Beatty was fined £60,000 and ordered to pay £45,000 costs after a road worker was killed du r ing const ruct ion of the Nesscliffe bypass in Shropshire in 2002.

Stephen Haywood was operating a 'stop-go' board to control traffic f low f rom an island on the A5 while an anti-skid surface was applied to the road when he was struck by a heavy goods vehicle and killed.
