Balfour lands £46m York college extension

Balfour Beatty has chalked up £45.6 million contract to build a brand new higher and further education campus for York College.
The contractor saw off rivals HBG and Sir Robert McAlpine to win the deal.

York College wants to knock down its Sim Balk Lane campus and build a four-storey block over 30,000 sq m.

External works, construction of a two storey car park and an all weather pitch will also come under the deal.

The college's existing Tadcaster Road site will be redeveloped for residential use.

Work is set for completion by September 2007.
