Balfour signs £150m Islington BSF deal

Balfour Beatty has signed a deal to carry out the first phase of a £150 million Building Schools for the Future programme for Islington Council in north London.

The firm’s Transform Schools consortium will manage the revamp of two schools with building carried out by Balfour Beatty Construction and Balfour Kilpatrick. Facilities management services will be provided by Haden Building Management.

Balfour Beatty chief executive Ian Tyler said: “We are delighted to have reached financial close on our second Building Schools for the Future concession, and our fist using the Local Education Partnership model.”

A third Private Finance Initiative-funded school will also be built under this first phase.

Over the next five years Transform Islington will project manage, design and deliver a further two phases comprising five schools and two pupil referral units.
