Balfour wins Malaysia job

Balfour Beatty Rail has won a £160 million deal to electrify a railway in Malaysia.

The firm will carry out work on the Ipoh to Padang Besar rail extension which will also involve power supply, signalling and communications work on 330 km of track.

Work is due to be finished by January 2013 and is being carried out with Italian joint venture company Ansaldo.

The entire value of the job to the joint venture is worth £300 million.
