Balfour wins schools deal

BALFOUR Beatty has chalked up a £15 million scheme to build three schools for Glasgow City Council.

The authority chose the contractor ahead of opposition from HBG, Ballast, Kier, Lilley and Ayrshire firm Dawn.

The deal involves building primary schools in the Possil, Castlemilk and Drumchapel areas of the city.

The investment in education comes as the council attempts to tackle a 20 per cent fall in enrolment at the city's primary schools since 1994.

Three further schools will undergo refurbishment and six will close.

Work on site is scheduled to begin in April, lasting two years.
