Ballet back to drawing board

THE PROPOSED £18 million Northern Ballet Theatre in Leeds is to be redesigned after all three bids came in too high.

Barr, Laing O'Rourke and Shepherd had submitted tenders for the job in the city centre, which would be the country's biggest complex outside London.

But the firms were told their bids were no longer of interest as they were too expensive. New tenders will be sought by client Taylor Woodrow Developments after the redesign.

It is not the first time the centre has suffered problems. KW Linfoot had been due to build it in 2002 but had to pull out due to funding problems.
