Baroness Vadera confirmed as construction minister

Baroness Shriti Vadera has been confirmed as the new construction minister to replace Stephen Timms who has moved to the Department for Work and Pensions.

The Department for Business, Enterprise & Regulatory Reform today announced Baroness Vadera would cover construction in her new role as business and competitiveness minister.

Baroness Vadera is the seventh construction minister in seven years.

Graham Watts, chief executive of the Construction Industry Council, said: "Mr Watts said: “We’re not happy about all these different construction ministers. We had a good minister in Stephen Timms, who was well-connected and did a lot of work. He’s just had time to finish a round of introductions when he’s replaced.

“But this move is not about the construction industry, it’s because the most important thing to the Government is getting the right people around Gordon Brown.”

The Government reshuffle was spurred by the resignation of work and pensions secretary Peter Hain's resignation last Thursday.
