Barr to ship materials to green Tesco

SCOTTISH contractor Barr Construction is taking to the seas as part of a bid to reduce its impact on the environment.

It is shipping more than 1,500 tonnes of building materials from docks in Grangemouth on the Firth of Forth, central Scotland, to one of its sites in Wick on the northeast tip of Scotland, near John O'Groats.

The move is part of the deal to build an environmentally friendly store for supermarket giant Tesco in the town and will dramatically cut the number of lorry deliveries needed to supply the site.

Barr Construction managing director Barclay Chalmers said: 'It will reduce emissions and ease congestion on the roads.'
