Battle for snow dome under way


RETAIL and leisure firm Capital & Regional is running the rule over rival bids for a £40 million snow dome near Glasgow.

Shepherd and Laing O'Rourke are locked in a tough competition to build the new Xscape centre at Braehead, which will include a bowling alley and cinema.

One source said: 'Shepherd has the experience after building the last Xscape centre in Castleford, but Laing O'Rourke has been working very well on Capital & Regional's Glasgow Fort retail centre so they were asked to have a look at it.'

The client will choose a winner next month.Work on site is due to begin in August and last 15 months.

Cyril Sweett is the QS, while Faulkner Brown is the architect.
