Be grateful for bricks

LETTERS

Sir, Alan Burton is right to say that PPE should not be relied upon as the first line of defence in safety (Letters, August 11).

But he should be grateful so many designers fail to comply with their duty to eliminate hazards by specifying brickwork instead of safer, factoryassembled components, thus making him and his workforce redundant. Bricklayers are not less safe because of PPE but are slightly less productive, which is probably the real issue behind Mr Bu r ton's complaint.
