More than 80 attendees battled through atrocious ‘beast from the east’ weather conditions to attend CN’s first Inspire Me workshop this week at London’s Sofitel Hotel.
Delegates heard from industry luminaries on the obstacles facing women who seek leadership roles in the sector.
It was evident that, while there’s some good work being done, there’s still a long way to go for the industry to reach gender parity across all levels.
After a keynote from Landsec head of development (London) Beth West, the attendees discussed the challenges on their individual tables, exchanging ideas and experiences.
They then put thoughts and questions to a panel comprising Ms West, Mabey group CEO Juliette Stacey, and Willmott Dixon Re-Thinking director and chair of its gender diversity steering group Julia Barrett.
Among the insights and productive discussion, it was clear that not only are there numerous issues to tackle, but that male counterparts must play vital roles in the solutions, as CN’s features editor Binyamin Ali points out.
