Quarriers have found unlikely allies in bird watching enthusiasts. A new report by conservation body the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds has underlined the importance that old quarries and mineral working sites have in providing wildlife habitats. Its report calls on planners to insist more workings are used to create nature reserves.
