Birse payoff

The former managing director of Birse's construction arm, John Elders, left the firm with a £210,000 payoff. Mr Elders departed suddenly in August 2001 without agreeing compensation. The £210,000 payoff he subsequently negotiated, plus his other outstanding wages and benefits, took his total payment from Birse for 2002 to £268,974.
