Blunkett right to go, says Clarke

Home Secretary Charles Clarke today said David Blunkett was right to quit as Work and Pensions Secretary.
Mr Clarke said the Government was 'desolate' over Mr Blunkett's resignation but it was the right decision.

Mr Clarke said: 'He's had the most fantastic political career, he's made an amazing contribution and his political achievement is absolutely stunning, but at the end of the day, if something is wrong on these declarations of interests and so on, your own authority erodes a bit and he came to the view it was best to go.'
