Bobcat opens 16m Czech factory

Firm intends to have 80 per cent of all machines destined for the European market built in Europe by 2008

Compact plant giant Bobcat has opened its £16 million factory in the Czech Republic, the first new works for the firm outside the US.

The firm, recently bought by Korean manufacturer Doosan, said it is investing in locally sourced components and skills to serve the factory.

It also said it intends to have 80 per cent of all machines destined for the European market built in Europe by the end of 2008.

The factory, which will make and assemble loaders and mini excavators up to 2 tonnes, is currently 20,000 sq m but can abe expanded to increase floorspace to 31,000 sq m.

Bobcat Europe has announced a three-year -campaign to raise funds for Unicef, the United Nations Children’s Fund. It opened the campaign by auctioning an S100 compact loader decorated with a livery designed by the five-year-old winner of a children’s competition, which fetched £38,000.
