Bobcat prowls UK with mini excavator

BOBCAT is strengthening its position in the UK mini excavator market with the launch of a mid-range model, the 335.

Weighing in at 4.2 tonnes, the Bobcat 335 is designed for high-output production work on larger const ruct ion sites.

The US-built machine is an important tool in Bobcat's bid to increase sales in the UK, said Tom Raes, product manager for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

He added: 'The UK mini excavator market is dominated by JCB, particularly in the largest-selling size range from 1.5 to 2 tonnes. In this class of machine we also have strong competition from Takeuchi, which sells a lot of mid-range machines in the UK, too.'

The Bobcat 335 is available with a full cab or a simple Rops/fops canopy.

'This size of machine is very productive and, with the improved operator comfort offered by the 335, can work a full five or six-hour shift, ' said Mr Raes.

An important feature of the machine is its high level of stability, which Bobcat says gives greater breakout forces while reducing operator fatigue.

The machine is powered by a 30.3 kW Kubota turbo-diesel engine and has a maximum digging depth of 3.6 m with the standard dipper arm.

The 335 is aimed mainly at the UK hire market. Mr Raes said: 'Excavators in the 4 to 5-tonne class are capable of tackling quite large jobs and we think this model will give high utilisation rates in UK hire fleets.'
