Bouygues wins Tyne tunnel deal

French group Bouygues Construction has won a deal to build and operate a tunnel under the river Tyne in northeast England.

The contract is the firm’s major civil engineering project in Britain and is worth more than £350 million.

Construction work will be carried out by Bouygues Travaux Publics and will involve a 1,600-metre-long tunnel which will duplicate an existing tunnel under the Tyne.
