Bovis Homes ups sales despite fewer site visits

THE HOUSING market has picked up markedly over the summer, according to Bovis Homes chief executive Malcolm Harris.

Unveiling an £11.5 million rise in pre-tax profits to £56.6 million for the first half of this year, Mr Harris said: 'July and August sales had to be an improvement on last year, which was pretty awful.'

Bovis sold 1,262 homes in the first half - up from 1,089 a year ago - with site visits rising at a slower rate than sales. Mr Harris put this improvement in the conversion of sales to building cheaper homes, with 80 per cent of Bovis' first half sales units going for under £250,000.
