Break the appalling safety cycle

LETTERS

Sir, Yet again we see picture of a site where unsafe activity is taking place ('Cracking job', Construction News, February 24).

The operative in the photograph is using a breaker with no ear protection, no safety glasses, no gloves and what appears to be a mobile phone earplug.

Why are we still letting our employees work this way?

In the same issue, there was an article on the appalling safety record in our industry, but it will never improve unless we all start to make our employees do it the right way.

Peter Cluett, safety manager, Modern Plant Hire, Rugby, Warwickshire
