Bridge of sighs...

AS DESIGNERS of the Trinity Bridge in Manchester, which has had to close for 16 weeks for repair (Construction News, October 28) , we would like to point out the following:

The Calatrava office only elaborated the design of the bridge. We very much identify with the design of the bridge, but we do not feel responsible for the building of it, which was done by other firms.

The design development and the execution plans were done by another studio.

Client Salford City Council chose the cheapest tender for the execution of the bridge.

For the execution, several details of our plans (for example the lighting) were changed without our consent.

Site supervision and site management were done by a local company and not by us.
