Bridge worker killed in concrete block fall

A CONSTRUCTION worker was crushed to death last Sunday when a massive block of concrete became unstable and landed on top of him.

Gary Drinkald, 43, from Hailsbury in Buckinghamshire, was working on a job to repair a road bridge on the A1306 which spans a railway in West Thurrock, Essex. He was certified dead at the scene.

Essex Police are leading a joint investigation with the Health and Safety Executive.

The fatality is the first on the HSE's records for the new statistical year starting April 1, 2006.

Fitzpatrick is the main contractor on site for client Thurrock Borough Council.
