British engineer kidnapped in Afghanistan

Suspected Taliban rebels have kidnapped a British engineer and his local interpreter after an attack in western Afghanistan that left four policemen dead, police said today.
The Briton works for a foreign company building a highway from the southern city of Kandahar to the western city of Herat, said local police chief Allah Uddin Noorzi.

He was kidnapped yesterday after a convoy he was travelling in was attacked, he said. Four policemen providing security were killed, he said.
