Brown plays hide and seek over CIS meeting


CHANCELLOR Gordon Brown is still ducking a meeting with construction leaders hoping to head off next April's looming CIS tax chaos.

Construction Confederation chairman Peter Commins is pushing for an urgent showdown to discuss the industry's fears.

Confederation spokesman Kurt Calder said: 'There has been no word from Mr Brown about a meeting but we are cranking up the pressure on him.

'We are urging all our member federations to ask the companies they represent to join our campaign by writing to their MPs.' The confederation believes the computer system will not be able to cope next Apr il.
