BT set to tender 300m of civil and cabling work

BRITISH Telecommunications is to go out to tender soon for 300 million worth of civil engineering and cabling works.

The project follows earlier awards totalling 450 million to install ductwork as part of an intensive modernisation programme. It is understood that work will be carried out right across the United Kingdom. This will embrace all nine BT zones and it is envisaged that there will be between one and three contracts let in each zone.

Every contract is due to start on October 1 and work will take two to three years to complete.

We are being open-minded about who bids for the work and firms need not necessarily be included on the BT select lists, although they must be large enough to undertake the big contracts on offer, said Angelo Rigali of BT.
