Buckingham-Hochtief JV bags £25m Salford roads contract

A joint venture between Buckingham Group Contracting and Hochtief UK has won a contract for the first stage of a major road infrastructure project in Salford.

The Buckingham-Hochtief JV was up against Balfour Beatty, BAM Nuttall and Graham Construction for the contract, according to Glenigan. A spokesman for Buckingham Group confirmed that the firms had won the tender for the £25 million project.

The work is part of the Western Gateway Infrastructure Scheme and includes construction of a new dual carriageway linking the A57 with the Bridgewater Circle via a new bridge over the Manchester ship canal.

It also includes improvement work to the A57 and M60 and will last from the beginning of 2013 to the middle of 2014.

There are several stakeholders involved in the work, including the Highways Agency, Manchester Ship Canal Company, Salford City Council, Trafford Borough Council, the Trafford Centre, Salford City Reds and a number of local businesses.
