THIS multilingual and multi-currency site, which went live on January 1998, is entirely venture capitalfunded. The company was founded by Brian Moran, a construction industry veteran previously working in procurement. Services include online procurement, tendering processes and project development. Active in the UK, Ireland, Germany and France, sites for Italy, Spain and Portugal, will be online soon.

'We are essentially a technology company with software expertise. What's important for us is not the number of hits, but securing the key accounts, ' says Moran. 'We are not a portal, but we could be partnering with a portal that needs software expertise in the future.'

Buildonline is joining forces with the National Federation of Builders as an online trading partner and has similar agreements with organisations in Germany and Ireland. The company claims it has signed up 3,700 suppliers across UK and Ireland and has booked projects for the combined value of £1 billion-plus in its trade online and project online sections.
