Business up for window fabricators

WINDOW fabricators have reported increased business for the third quarter of this year, according to the latest market trend survey.

The survey, produced by management consultant Michael Rigby, shows 63 per cent of manufacturers had fuller order books for July to September compared with the previous three months.

Large companies clocked up particularly strong growth, as did firms producing between 125 to 300 frames a week. Sales were also up on the same period in 1998, with just under two-thirds of firms interviewed recording increases.

Trade and retail specialists led the way, with 72 per cent and 61 per cent respectively recording increases. But the survey also shows that just over 50 per cent of fabricators surveyed are work-ing below capacity.

However, just under 50 per cent are planning to increase investment in plant and machinery in the coming 12 months.
