Call for joint construction procurement

Councils in the north-west should create a regional resource to jointly procure construction work, according to a new report from a Government body specialising in local government best practice.

The North West Centre of Excellence has published Is Buying A Burden? which calls for the creation of a 'central resource for construction that would address directly the north-west’s local authorities’ single biggest market – construction which is 28 per cent of total third party spend."

The author of the report, Dr Clare Poulter said: “Is Buying A Burden? is an important move towards helping local authorities to understand the procurement picture and how they can make changes in the approach to purchasing for the better."
