Carbon-free new build by 2021

MATERIALS chiefs are looking to eliminate carbon emissions from all new buildings by 2021.

The Construction Products Association launched the Low and Zero Carbon Buildings Technology Group yesterday to achieve this aim.

But association president John Colley insisted improving the existing building stock would still be the most costeffective way of reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

He said: 'Eighty per cent of our dwellings were built before building regulations paid any attention to energy efficiency, and these are on average four times less energy-efficient than a house built to the latest building regulations.'
