Carillion picked for Blackpool upgrade

Urban regeneration company ReBlackpool and Blackpool Council have appointed Carillion Capital Projects as preferred developer to carry out road and environmental improvement work next to Blackpool Football Club.

The second phase of the Central Corridor programme will include the upgrading of Lonsdale car park, creation of a new pedestrian plaza near the stadium’s West Stand and reconfiguration of Seasiders Way between Bloomfield Road and Sands Way.

A car park with 650 spaces, park with children's play area and multi-use games area, bouldering wall and two 20m high climbing frame were built under the first phase.

ReBlackpool chief executive Doug Garrett said: “The continued development of the Central Corridor is another step forward in our programme to improve Blackpool’s arrival experience – it demonstrates our partnership approach to regeneration in which we work closely with the public and private sector to deliver pragmatic regeneration projects to make the town a better place to live, work and play.”

Work is due to begin on site in mid September, with completion scheduled for March 2009.
