Carter profits slip

PROFITS and margins dipped last year at East Anglian contractor RG Carter.

Pre-tax profits fell £795,000 to £13.7 million in 2003 despite turnover at the Norwich-based group edging up £1.4 million to £228.5 million.

The firm declined to comment on the fall but in a statement said: 'The start of the current year has seen a good level of activity from each area of the group and the directors are confident that a satisfactory result will be achieved.'

With operating profits falling £577,000 to £9.9 million, margins at the firm, which employs more than 2,100 staff, slipped to 4.4 per cent from 4.6 per cent in the previous year.
