Castleford's footbridge is delayed

The opening of Castleford’s £4.8 million footbridge across the River Aire has been delayed until January.

Led by Costain the job should have been finished before Christmas but the “high quality architectural finish” has taken longer than expected.

Wakefield Council’s project manager Tim Wheeler said: “Work is progressing well on the footbridge but the high quality architectural finish is taking a little longer than anticipated.

"In agreement with all parties its opening has been put back to January. This is to ensure that the high quality finish is not compromised and the bridge delivers the vision of its architect, Renato Benedetti.”

Once completed the s-shaped footbridge will link Aire Street with Mill Lane.

The project was funded by Wakefield Council with Yorkshire Forward and English Partnerships.
