CBI chief in transport bid

NEW CONFEDERATION of British Industry director general Digby Jones is calling on the government to make increased transport spending a priority this year.

Mr Jones said: 'We need people to be able to get to work safely and cheaply and companies to get their goods to market quickly and efficiently.'

He cited the Jubilee Line Extension and Manchester's Metrolink as prime examples where improved transport links have created jobs and reduced congestion.
