CCTV footage clears steel boss following black-tie punch-up

THE STEEL company boss cleared of assault after the British Constructional Steelwork Association's annual dinner has spoken of his relief that CCTV evidence backed his self-defence claim.

Craig Barnshaw, 36, managing director of West Midlandsbased Barnshaw Section Benders, was acquitted after an incident following the bash at the Savoy Hotel, London, in March.

The jury at Southwark Crown Court took just 30 minutes to acquit Mr Barnshaw and find that he acted in self-defence to a punch thrown by ex-colleague Brian Green, 53.

Mr Barnshaw told Construction News: 'If there was no CCTV evidence, I'm not sure how the case would have gone.

'But my statement was confirmed by CCTV footage, while his wasn't, and it didn't take long for the jury to decide what I did was lawful.'
