Chair appointed for London sustainable development commission

Mayor of London Boris Johnson has appointed John Plowman as the new chair of the London sustainable development commission.

The commission was established in 2002 to advise the Mayor of London on sustainability issues and is made up of individual experts from the economic, social, environmental and London governance sectors.

Mr Plowman has a proven track record working on issues relating to sustainable development notably as a senior civil servant of 30 years standing in areas as diverse as environmental protection, urban regeneration and road safety.

Mr Johnson said: “London faces a range of serious challenges ahead, such as the delivery of an Olympic legacy, securing recovery from the economic downturn and tackling climate change.”
