Cheapness over quality blasted

DAVID McLean managing director Ken Dalton has hit out at clients for continuing to go for cheapness over quality when choosing contractors.

It follows publication of Selecting Contractors by Value, a report by research body CIRIA.

He said: 'It's one of the major reasons why the industry isn't moving forward.

'Many clients will select contractors purely on the basis of the lowest- price tender.

'It should be mandatory that all construction clients read this guide before selecting their preferred choice for the design, construction and maintenance of buildings.'

The Construction Clients' Forum is set to expand into a national confederation. A review team led by chairman Ian Reeves will present proposals to members next month.
