Clients back fully-carded sites drive

NEWS

THE CONSTRUCTION Clients' Group has thrown its weight behind the Major Contractors Group's campaign to achieve a fully-carded workforce on their sites by the beginning of next year.

Director James PrestonHood said: 'We will seek to promote, both through members and affiliated bodies, a clear message that good clients should expect a fully qualified workforce on their sites.

'We will also be working with our members to demonstrate that a fully qualified workforce will not hinder the drive for greater efficiency.'

The health and safety groups of the two organisations have begun a series of visits to promote best practice and are collaborating on joint guidance to SMEs and one-off clients to provide clients with greater control and confidence over the delivery of their projects.

CITB-ConstructionSkills expanded its SkillsDirect fasttracking scheme for gaining CSCS skills cards on Tuesday.

The scheme has been up and running for MCG members since February but is now available for the whole industry.

Workers can call the hotline on 0870 850 5262 to apply.
