Coins making 3D design link

IT

CONSTRUCTION industry software house Coins acquired BSLink, a building services package in October 1999, and is now re-marketing it, having made some improvements based on user feedback.

BSLink places intelligent objects, which know what they are and where they are in 3D space, on AutoCAD drawings. The model can then be used for co- ordination, scheduling materials, procurement and ultimatelyfacilities management.

The software automatically generates 3D models, which can reveal layout problems. The programme also contains an automatic clash-prevention system.

Other features include shape recognition, where BSLink recognises symbols imported from other drawings and converts them into the corresponding intelligent component.

BSLink is currently talking to component suppliers about building databases containing the parameters of their products, rather than the generic ones it currently contains.

This could ultimately lead to automatic ordering since the programme can generate schedules and pass them into other applications.

Coins will be targeting M&E firms, larger contractors and clients with in-house design teams.
