Cold snap enters harshest phase

Heavy snow fell across parts of Britain overnight as the country's cold snap entered its most bitter phase.
The southern Pennines, Yorkshire and parts of Lincolnshire were hardest hit overnight, with 5cms to 10cms of fresh snow settling by early this morning.

Forecasters expect today to be the worst day of the harsh spell with temperatures struggling to rise above freezing.
