Construction orders increase in October

Construction orders for October increased by 2 per cent compared with September.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics show orders in October totalled 2,106, compared with 2,063 the previous month with big increases coming in infrastructure work, public housing and private industrial.

But orders for the three months to October 2008 fell by 3 per cent compared with the previous three month period.

Orders in the 12 months to October 2008 fell 10 per cent compared with the previous 12 months and orders in three months to October 2008 fell by 21 per cent compared with the same period a year earlier.

Private housing orders fell by 32 per cent compared with the previous three month period.
