Construction slowdown

Rising materials prices and greater economic uncertainty have fuelled a slowdown in construction growth, figures from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors have revealed.
Cement saw production and delivery costs rise sharply at the beginning of the year and steel prices have soared over recent years.

Materials costs have seen an 8.5 per cent rise between first quarter 2004 and first quarter 2005.

Meanwhile the Construction Products Association has reported a slowdown in the sale of construction products due to a slump in the housing market and infrastructure projects being delayed.
