Contractors line up for £35m Buxton Spa scheme

Four contractors are in the running to win the £35 million Buxton Spa hotel scheme.

ISG and Vinci Construction are shortlisted alongside GF Tomlinson of Derby and Yorkshire-based Quarmby Construction.

The first phase of the work to transform the historic Derbyshire location into a luxury hotel, spa and visitor centre will begin within two months.

The scheme involves the construction of a 79-bedroom, five-star spa hotel incorporating the neighbouring Natural Baths, a brand new visitor interpretation centre, a state-of-the-art thermal, natural mineral water spa, and eight specialist shops.

The project was finally greenlighted after landowners High Peak Borough Council and Derbyshire County Council signed a development agreement with the Buxton Crescent Hotel and Thermal Spa Company.

The Buxton Crescent project includes the restoration of the town’s Grade I-listed Crescent building and the Grade II-listed Natural Baths and Pump Room.

Enabling work to turn the pump room into an information centre and cafe begin in June.
