Contractors spec up buying role

Contractors are playing an increasingly important role in the specification process, research published by Corus revealed today.
Data shows that more than a fifth of Corus products and systems where specified directly by contractors during the 2005/2006 financial year - a jump of 10 per cent since 2000.

Construction Products Association economics director Allan Wilen said: 'Government and many major private sector clients are increasingly looking to contractors, bidding for major projects, to demonstrate an integrated supply chain.

'Early involvement at the design stage of construction product manufacturers can ensure cost effective delivery of planned schemes.'

Corus conducts an annual research exercise across 500 completed projects from Corus' 14 business units.
