Costain wins Thames span

CONTRACTS SURREY

COSTAIN has secured a £25 million project to build a bridge over the Thames in Surrey.

The landmark Walton Bridge will deal with the heavy traffic and congestion that flows through Walton-on-Thames.

Surrey County Council granted planning permission for the project in November 2004.

The scheme includes the demolition of two existing bridges to make way for a new tied arch bridge designed for both pedestrians and traffic.

The project also includes a new Cowley Sale junction to ease traffic into the town.

The new bridge is scheduled to open in early 2009.
